The Municipality of Val-Des-Monts is one of seven constituent Municipalities of the regional Municipality of the county Collines-de-l’Outaouais.
The territory of the Municipality is limited in the north by the MRC of the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau and of Papineau, to the east by the Municipalities of Notre-Dame-de-la-Salette and Ange-Gardien, to the west by the Municipality of La Pêche, and at last to the south by the Municipality of Cantley and the territory of the community of the Outaouais. The territory which makes up the Municipality of Val-Des-Monts is composed mainly of more than 125 lakes, farmland and virgin forests, which grouped together, carry a large commercial value.
Val-Des-Monts gets it’s name from its many valleys and mountains. The residents of the Municipality are known as "Montvalois". Val-des-Monts’ population is currenly estimated to be 9,200. In the summer, the population increases to more than 10,000 boosting the total population to more than 19,000.
The permanent municipal population is concentrated in three sectors: Perkins, Saint-Pierre-de-Wakefield and Poltimore, the former towns which carried these names. They were ammalgamated in 1975 and 1976 to form the Municipality of Val-Des-Monts.
